NAPOLEON EMP. DES Fçais ROI DIlie, MARIE LSE D'ACHE IMPCE ET R NE, FCOIS II EMP. DCHE R. DE BME ET DE HGRIE
Repoussés like this were made by hammering a thin sheet of metal (usually copper) into the die. In this particular case the die was one of three engraved by Heurthaux to commemorate the wedding of Napoleon and Marie Louise of Austria. In the Empire volume of the Trésor de Numismatique repoussés of the three dies are listed as 42.7 (62 mm.), 42.8 (35 mm.) and 42.9 (27 mm.) Julius 2330 is a lead cliché from the 62 mm. die and Julius 2331 a repoussé from the 23 mm. die.
