1. The first sketch was for Bramsen 452, the interview between
Napoleon and Francis II, Emperor of Austria, which concluded
Napoleon's first Austrian campaign.

2. The second sketch was perhaps for Bramsen 868, the celebration of completing the Ourcq Canal; however, it differs considerably from the design finally chosen.

3. The third sketch is for a medal not in the series produced at the medal mint under the direction of Denon. The design was for one of the series planned by the Institute, the Piedmont joins the empire.

The preparation of the engravings in the scrapbook was a two or three step process. The three examples given here are from three different medals, a pencil drawing from the 15 mm medal for the marriage of Napoleon and Marie Louise, an inked tracing on a translucent background of a drawing from the Sanhedrin medal, and, finally, ink drawings from the Public Education medal, cut out and mounted on the engraved background used for the actual engravings.
